Ville Petteri, Founder and engineer

PennyClose is built and maintained by Ville Petteri, an engineer with a background in machine learning and years of building systems that read messy documents and financial data. It began as an internal tool for catch-up bookkeeping across his own businesses and became a product when the same problem kept turning up in other people's books: a PDF from the bank, no feed, and an afternoon of typing.

The same person writes the parser, answers the support email and adds bank layouts. If you write to us, Ville Petteri is who replies.

There is a second product from the same desk: Docuritas, for forensic accountants, examiners and counsel: a whole matter — statements from several parties, across several accounts — worked into one bound exhibit for filing, with a findings hash anyone can reproduce. Different work from converting a statement for the books, and a different product.

The promise

• If it does not tie, we say so. Every statement is checked against the opening and closing balances printed on it before anything reads as success. A statement without a printed closing balance to compare against never gets a green light.
• Your bank's layout within 24 hours. If we cannot read a digital statement yet, we keep only the shape of its layout (column headings, positions, formats; never amounts, names, dates or account numbers), you email us the bank name, and support is added within 24 hours on business days. The PDF from the bank's website is the normal path; a scan with a text layer reads as text; an image-only PDF is read with OCR on our own server and still has to tie before it downloads.
• Nothing kept. Statements are parsed in memory and never written to disk. OCR runs on the same server, in memory. No third-party AI or OCR service sees them, and nothing is used for training. There is no workspace and no library of client files on this server: if you need the spreadsheet again, convert the PDF again.

Before sending a statement, read the contact page: usually we do not need the file at all.

What we are not

• Not affiliated with Intuit. QuickBooks is a trademark of Intuit Inc. We build files that QuickBooks imports; we have no relationship with Intuit and do not speak for it.
• Not a lender, a bank or a credit bureau. PennyClose converts statements. It does not lend, score, or make decisions about anyone.
• We do not sell data. There is nothing to sell: statements are never stored, and the account records we keep (email, plan, page usage) are used only to run your account.
